All major available classrooms are categorized by building, available features, occupancy, and available space. CLASSROOM RESOURCES DATABASE

Georgia State University offers a wide variety of classrooms and learning spaces that support student instruction and engagement. Find a list of available features below.

Simulcast capabilities are available across more than half of generally scheduled classrooms. These classrooms provide you with options to broadcast your live lecture from the classroom while allowing students to participate from their personal devices wherever they are, whether in the classroom, in another classroom on campus, or anywhere in the world.

Active learning also plays a significant role in the emergence of blended learning techniques being explored across the university. Classrooms setup for active learning have enhanced technologies that give the instructor and students greater freedom to capture content in the space for later review as well as use content from the web and other sources directly while in class.

Classroom Equipment Features

Use the guide below to understand which features are available for classrooms with a specific feature listed in the classroom resources database or search for a room by these criteria.

Student Computer Workstations

This room is equipped with enough student workstations to match the student capacity within the room. Rooms with extra workstations that do not match the room capacity should not have this label and should instead be listed as either a lab or regular classroom. This code is meant to correlate with student computer classrooms.

Instructor Workstation

This room is equipped with a IIT-standardized instructor workstation. This means the room will have a desk appropriate for the room size and a network-connected computer at a bare minimum. Likely the room will also be equipped with DVD Player, Document Camera, and other accessories which will also be noted in the room’s resource list.

Document Camera

This room is equipped with a desk-mounted document camera. The document camera will either be a dedicated source that is selectable from the AV control panel or as a USB device that launches via software from the instructor computer.

Wall Talker

This room has a Wall Talker as its main projection and writing surface. A Wall Talker is a term used to describe a large white board that covers nearly the entirety of the front of the room. Often a projector in the room projects directly onto the surface of the Wall Talker.

White Board

This room is equipped with one or several mounted white boards. These white boards can be mounted to the front, side, or rear of the room. The room should indicate the number of whiteboards available with the quantity of codes.

Instructor Bring Your Own Device Connection

This room is equipped with a physical cable that allows for a laptop or similar device to be displayed on the main content device. The cable can be in the form of HDMI, VGA, or both. However, increasingly VGA will no longer be supported. Instructors can select this connection from the AV control panel in the room.

DVD Player

This room is equipped with a device capable of playing DVD’s. This is either in the form of a dedicated DVD player or integrated into the instructor PC. Newer rooms will have this capability integrated into the instructor PC and can play DVD’s back through software included on the computer.

Projector

This room is equipped with a ceiling-mounted projector used to display content by the instructor. The projector will display content on either a motorized, manual, or fixed screen located within the room.

BLU Ray Player

This room is equipped with a device capable of playing back BLU Ray discs. This can either be in the form of a dedicated BLU Ray player or integrated into the instructor PC. Newer rooms will have this capability integrated into the instructor PC and can play BLU Ray discs back through software included on the computer.

Student Power Outlets with Network

This room is equipped with furniture that includes both power outlets as well as physical network ports for students. These outlets and network jacks can usually be found as pop-up cubbies on the student desks and are most often installed in large lecture halls.

TV

This room is equipped with one more televisions that are used to display content within the room. This can include both TV’s used primarily for instructor content as well as TV’s intended to be used by students for collaboration.

Basic Video Conferencing

This room is equipped with basic technology to allow instructors sound and video to be heard. In most cases this is through a webcam built into the instructor computer. This room does not capture the student audio or video reliably. This is also not to be confused with Simulcast or Simulcast Plus rooms which are more specialized for broadcast and have enhanced equipment installed for specific video conferencing applications.

Student Power Outlets

This room is equipped with power outlets intended to be used by students. These power outlets could be located within the student furniture, in the floor, or in key locations around the room.

Manual Projector Screen

This room has a projector screen in the room that needs to be physically pulled down and up in order to extend it. Often times this screen is in the front of the room near the white boards and will have a pull string attached.

Annotation Monitor

This room is equipped with the ability for instructors to use digital whiteboarding tools such as SMART and Ink2Go. This capability is almost exclusively contained within the instructor computer and the instructor will use software on the computer to digitally annotate on the screen.

Wireless Instructor Microphone

This room is equipped with a wireless microphone (lavalier) that can be used to boost the voice of the instructor. This technology is often found in large lecture halls and the body pack for the technology is either located within the room or can be checked out using classroom equipment checkout form.

Motorized or Non-Manual Projector Screen

This room is equipped with a projector screen that automatically raises and lowers. Alternatively, this room could be equipped with a static screen that does not require the user to raise or lower the screen. The controls for this screen are usually located on the walls near the lights / white boards or built in to the functionality of the AV system within the room.

Telephone

This room is equipped with a hard-wired phone used to call tech support or for emergency purposes. The telephone is usually mounted on the wall near one of the doors or on the instructor workstation.

Wireless Content Presentation

This room is equipped with a device that allows students and instructors to display content on the main device (projector or TV) wirelessly. The device is selectable in the AV control panel and will have instructions displayed on how to connect.

Simulcast Video Conferencing Classroom Lite

This room is equipped with enhanced video conferencing technology designed specifically for transmitting voice and video to remote participants or to students at other campuses. A room that is a simulcast room lite will have features including enhanced instructor pickup and an enhanced camera. However, these rooms do not cover every use-case that instructor teaching simulcast classes may need including student microphones and additional displays.

Simulcast Video Conferencing Classroom

This room is equipped with enhanced video conferencing technology designed specifically for transmitting voice and video to remote participants or students at other campuses. A full simulcast room has all the features necessary for a fully immersive and engaging class with students in multiple modalities. Simulcast room plus technology will be able to pick up student questions in rooms and allow remote students and face-to-face students to hear each other speak and attend class as a single group.

Fixed Instructor Microphone

This room is equipped with a fixed microphone located at the instructor workstation. This microphone can be used typically in both video conferencing as well as voice enhancement situations.

Lecture Capture Capable

This room has software installed on the instructor computer that would allow an instructor to capture their lecture and upload the video to iCollege.

AV Signal Switching for Groups

This room is equipped with advanced audio/visual hardware that allows for content to be viewed in multiple ways from various sources around the room. Typically, this hardware is installed in rooms designed to be used with active and collaborative learning.

How do I reserve a classroom space that I have located in the classroom resources database?

If a space you have found in the classroom resources database is available for reservations, you can reserve a classroom space through the Office of the Register.

What software is on classroom computers?

All IIT maintained classroom computers have consistent software configurations in order to enable continuity and ease-of-use. These software can be made available.
