Audio Lab Frequently Asked Questions
All students are required to be certified before reserving the Audio Lab. Students can take the required Audio lab course in iCollege. After completing the online course, your grades will be reviewed, and your name will be added to the authorized user group for the Audio Lab.

Students who are proficient in audio engineering are still required to complete the Audio Lab course in order to gain access to the Audio Lab. It is important that every student learn the rules and best practices for the CATLAB Audio Lab in order to set and maintain a standard at every Georgia State campus.
The online Audio Lab course is a self-paced course that students can take at their leisure from any location. Generally, the course takes roughly 20 minutes to complete, but completion time varies based on the individual student.
Students may retake the online Audio Lab course at any time. Simply select the “Retake” option inside the Canvas course. If you encounter any trouble completing the course, please send an email to [email protected] stating your name, campus ID, Panther number, and a brief description of the problem and someone will reply with a solution as soon as possible.
Please allow 24 hours after completing the online Audio Lab course before attempting to make an Audio Lab reservation. Course grades are reviewed and authorization is given manually, therefore certification is not automatic.
Students can create their own Audio Lab reservation online using the patron portal of WebCheckout at https://gsu.webcheckout.net/patron.
Students may change their Audio Lab reservation at any time by visiting https://gsu.webcheckout.net/patron and editing the upcoming reservation. Students may also call or visit their campus’ CATLAB and ask a Lab Assistant to change the upcoming reservation.
Students can reserve the Audio Lab for any time within the current semester. Please note, reservations cannot be made for days in which the CATLAB is closed.
Students may reserve the Audio Lab for up to 2 hours per session.
Students may only make one advanced reservation per day; however, a lab assistant can extend the reservation for an extra 2 hours if there are no upcoming reservations after the reservation is scheduled to end.
Students are allowed up to 2 guests during their Audio Lab session. The guests must be Georgia State students and will be asked to present their PantherCard for verification. Guests will also be required to complete the Audio Lab certification course before they can be added to the reservation. All guests must be added to the Audio Lab reservation prior to the start of the session; otherwise, they will not be permitted.
Students are permitted to bring their own instruments to their Audio Lab session. Electric instruments must be able to be plugged with a ¼ inch jack.
Students may bring an audio engineer into their session as long as they are a Georgia State student and have completed the Audio Lab certification course. CATLAB assistants will also be nearby to help troubleshoot any issues that may arise during the session.
No one is allowed to join your session once it has begun. If you want a friend to join you, they must be on the reservation prior to the reservation start time. That friend must also have completed the Audio Lab certification course.
Students may start their Audio Lab session early as long as there are no conflicting reservations for that time. Please be aware that your session will still only be for 2 hours from the time you enter the Audio Lab.
Students must leave one set of lights on during their Audio Lab session. If a student prefers to work in low light, we recommend only leaving the recessed light on and turning off the fluorescent panels.
