Returning Equipment
Multimedia Equipment Returns: Equipment must be returned to the CATLAB where it was originally checked out and only by the one who made the reservation. Equipment is considered late if it is not returned by close of the checkout period the day it is due.
- All student equipment checkouts will be given a return due date 7 days from the checkout date.
- Equipment can be returned to the original checkout center at any time that the CATLab is open, up to 7 days from when it was originally checked out.
- If the CATLab is to be closed 7 days from the checkout date (holiday or unexpected closure) an adjustment will be made to the return date for the student’s convenience.
Classroom Equipment
To more efficiently allocate resources due to resource and budget constraints, faculty equipment checkout for items except lavalier mics is not available as of the end of the Spring 2023 semester (May 7, 2023). For additional options, check with your department. The university library offers equipment checkout. Student multimedia equipment checkout is available from CATLabs. More on this change >

Needed for Checkout
Your PantherCard will be needed to pick up your lavalier mic. You will also be required to sign an Equipment Use Agreement Form.
Equipment must be returned to the CATLAB where it was originally checked out and only by the one who made the reservation. Please be aware that fines may be applied for late returns, damaged or lost items according to the Faculty Equipment Checkout Policy.
Returning Equipment
Lavalier mics are checked out for the entire semester. Extensions can be requested via email but are limited to 2 extensions per the original reservation. Equipment and devices utilized should not substitute for adequate departmental resources and are due back at the agreed-upon return date. Equipment should be returned to a campus CATLab.
Faculty, graduate teaching assistants and staff are bound by the same policies as students, including reservation limits, lateness, loss, damage, theft and non-profit policies.
Late Fees
Equipment is considered late if it is not returned by close of the checkout period the day it is due, with the exception of Thursdays and Fridays, in which equipment is due by close of the following Monday.
- First day late - $30.00 (plus $5.00 for each additional item)
- Second day late - $20.00 (additional)
- Third day late - $20.00 (additional)
- Fourth day late: If on the fourth morning after the equipment was due back it is still not in the lab, an additional $100.00 lost fee will be charged and we will have to file a report with the police for the missing items.
Appeal a Fine
CATLAB fines may be adjusted or waived in extenuating circumstances supported by documentation of your claim. All disputes are reviewed on a case by case basis and submission of documentation does not guarantee the removal or adjustments.
