What is Alertus Desktop?
Alertus Technologies makes two applications for Mac and Windows systems: Alertus Desktop and the Alertus Panic Button. Alertus Desktop is a notification app, designed to alert you to campus emergencies and unexpected events. It is deployed automatically to properly managed Mac and Windows computers owned by Georgia State University.
What is the Alertus Panic Button?
Alertus Technologies makes two applications for Mac and Windows systems: Alertus Desktop and the Alertus Panic Button. The Alertus Panic button is a virtual panic button that you can use to send a panic report directly to the GSUPD in the case of an emergency.
- For managed Windows computers: the Alertus Panic Button is automatically installed by IIT and various departments on campus, but may need to be configured with your campus location.
- For managed Mac computers: the Alertus Panic button will need to be installed and configured before use.
NOTE: The Alertus Panic Button is not intended to report medical emergencies. For medical emergencies on campus that need immediate attention, please dial 911.
Will Alertus work on any device?
No. Alertus Desktop notifications will only work on managed desktop and laptop computers. The Alertus Panic Button will only work on managed desktop computers.
How do I know Alertus Desktop is installed and working correctly?
You’ll see an Alertus Desktop icon at the bottom right in your system tray (Windows) or in the top menu bar (Mac). You can verify that the software is able to communicate with our servers by clicking its icon and looking at the Status:Operational item. If Alertus is missing or not operational on your computer, please contact the IIT Technology Service Desk at firstname.lastname@example.org or 404-413-HELP (404-413-4357).
Departmental IT units on campus can deploy Alertus to their department’s workstations using SCCM or Munki. For assistance, please contact the IIT Technology Service Desk.
Do I have to do something to see alerts?
No. Alerts are shown automatically as long as you are logged in and using the computer, and the Alertus Desktop software status is operational.
Will Alertus work from home?
No. The software is only designed to work within GSU’s network (wired and wireless).
Does Alertus Track Any of My Computer’s Information?
No. Alertus is for emergency notifications only.
