Pro Tools

Soundtrack Pro

Adding an excellent soundtrack or score to your movie, podcast or multimedia project can really separate your piece from the pack. With Apple’s SoundTrack Pro, it’s easy to create compelling sound effects, musical interludes and atmospheric settings with sound. SoundTrack makes it so easy, you don’t need formal music training to make something sound amazing. This course introduces the basic functions of SoundTrack Pro.

GarageBand

GarageBand is a simple but powerful tool for creating music. You can record your own instruments and vocals, or you can use the thousands of copyright free sound files that Apple provides. This one-hour course shows you how to use GarageBand to make your own songs, mix them, and output them as MP3s. No formal music training is required.

Podcasting

Beginner level walk through of the podcasting process that covers PowerPoint conversions, audio & video editing, and publishing to iTunes U.

Graphics, Images and Print

Photoshop for Absolute Beginners

This workshop covers everything from understanding the Photoshop interface to mastering the concept of layers. Tasks such as cropping and straightening pictures, removing unwanted blemishes and combining shots into one image will emphasize the basic functions of tools and adjustments. A ouple of slightly more advanced exercises will exemplify the idea of masking to achieve subtle, but creative effects that can be applied to any image.

Illustrator for Absolute Beginners

This workshop is designed to give workshop participants an introduction to Adobe Illustrator. Participants will learn how to use this software tools to create logos, vectorize images, and gain a basic understanding of gradient.

Gimp

Gimp is a free Image Manipulation tool. Our class will go over basic image editing functions such as cropping, flipping, and scaling images. In addition the basics of layers and masking will be explained that allow for more sophisticated image editing.

InDesign for Absolute Beginners

InDesign is a publishing tool used for everything from fancy posters to full magazines and books. The Absolute Beginners class features the basic skills like how to import pictures and texts, and how to apply these skills for a brochure.

Video and Motion Graphics

Final Cut Pro

Final Cut Pro is leading the industry for consumer-accessible post-production software. This workshop introduces you to the program and a step-by-step process to get you started and completed with your digital video project.

iMovie

The iMovie workshop is designed with the beginner in mind.  The class covers the basics of movie editing on the Mac, including cuts, transitions, mixing multimedia, and exporting

Motion

Motion is a powerful, easy-to-use motion graphics editor, similar to Adobe After Effects. In this introductory class, we’ll look at how to move text around the screen, how to apply simple special effects, and how to make a character shoot lightning from their hands (like Storm in the X-Men movies). This is a fun class for anyone, but it’s helpful to take classes in iMovie, Final Cut Pro, or Flash before attending.

Flash

On completion of this beginning-level Flash CS5 class, you will be able to (1) identify the components of the work space; (2) use the basic tools to create simple animations, such as motion tween and shape tween; (3) use timeline to create simple presentations; and (4) apply code snippets to stop and replay the movie, sound, and more.

After Effects

Adobe After Effects is primarily used for creating motion graphics and visual effects. After Effects allows users to animate, alter and composite media in 2D and 3D space with various built-in tools and third party plug-ins, as well as individual attention to variables like parallax and user-adjustable angle of observation.

Desire2Learn

This session for instructors is designed as an overview of the Desire2Learn tools. All basic features will be explained and questions about functionality will be answered. You will learn how to organize your online course, load documents, create discussion boards, and more.

vClass (Elluminate)

This is a powerful virtual environment optimized for learning. Come to this session and learn how to use some of the features in Elluminate such as loading a PowerPoint, using the polling feature, application sharing, play videos, bring up web pages, and more.

Research Technology

SPSS

Want to know what your data tells you? SPSS can help you. SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) is a powerful application that can read and analyze data as well as generate reports and graphs from that data. In this Introduction to SPSS workshop, you will learn how to define variables, enter data, import data from other types of files (such as Text and Excel files, manipulate data, such as select cases and split files), find and replace data, format output (such as edit graphs), transfer output to a Word document, and analyze data.

Nvivo

When undertaking qualitative research, it doesn’t take long for things to get messy.  You can quickly find yourself buried under interview transcripts, photographs, videos, memos, web sites, articles and other texts. Nvivo is a powerful data collection and analysis tool for the qualitative researcher.  In this 90 minute class for beginners, we’ll look at strategies for getting your data into the system, setting up preferences for how you want to work, organizational principles, and other tips and tricks. Feel free to bring some of your own data on a Flash drive, or use the sample data we provide.

Business Organization, Productivity, and Communication

Access

This workshop is designed to give workshop participants an introduction to Microsoft Office’s Access. In a series of 4 workshops, participants will be equipped to design a database, enter and update data, perform queries, and create both forms and reports.

Excel

Excel allows users to calculate, chart, and graph data. It allows users to set up a spreadsheet to easily analyze and share data.

Prezi

Prezi allows users to make a normal Power Point presentation much more interesting for viewers, and to create self-guided presentations. With its new iPad app, Prezi is even more accessible and convenient for those on the go.

Outlook

Outlook allows users to manage multiple email accounts within one program that does not require opening the web browser.

MAC 101

Never used a Mac before? This is the class for you! Mac 101 will cover the absolute basics the end user might need to know when making the switch from a PC, including: keyboard and mouse differences, Apple “lingo”, Mac equivalent programs, and how to navigate

Web Tools

iWeb

Apple-Oriented customizable website design using themes rather than complicated coding. You can add photos, movies, text, and widgets, then publish it to MobileMe or any other hosting service.

Dreamweaver

Want to learn how to build web pages? The absolute beginner Dreamweaver class will give you the basics of setting up a site and building web pages using Dreamweaver. This course is designed for the absolute beginner and will not cover any advanced functionality, CSS, or coding in HTML.

Mobile Technologies

iPad

The iPad is a laptop with the convenience of a tablet. With apps such as iAnnotate, Pages, and Keynote, the iPad eliminates the need for endless papers and books for a class. A student can take notes and highlight articles on the iPad and the professor can avoid carrying heavy textbooks across campus.

FlipCam

With the Flip Cam, students have the opportunity to express their creativity in a way other than a written paper. With its ease of operation and high quality picture, Flip Cams provide students with a new way to learn and show what they have learned.
