Overview

This document details how to chat/instant message, start a Voice or Video Call, and add contacts using Skype for Business on Windows, or Lync on a Mac.

You can also set up and schedule online meetings using Skype for Business (Lync).

Communicate with Skype for Business on Windows

Start a Chat, Video or Voice Call

  1. Select and right-click your contact.

  2. From the pop-up window, select how you would like to communicate.

NOTE: When adding more than two people to an audio or video call, you may experience reduced call quality

Sharing Screens and Media

  1. Double-click on the contact you want to share with.

  2. In the chat window, click the monitor icon to open up the sharing menu. You will have several sharing options, including:
    1. Present Desktop to share your desktop in real-time.
    2. Present Programs for presenting individual program windows in real time.
    3. Present Powerpoints
    4. Add Attachments to share different types of media files.

NOTE: The user you are trying to share with will be notified that you are requesting permission to share. They should click Accept.

Add Contacts

  1. In the "Find Someone" text box, type the name or email address of the person you want to add to your contacts.

  2. If the person you are looking for is not already in your contact list, select the Skype Directory and find the person you are looking for.

  3. Once you have found the person you want to add, right-click their contact and select Add to Contacts List.
  4. Then select which Contacts List you want to add them to.

Communicate with Skype for Business (Lync) on a Mac

Start a Chat, Video or Voice Call

  1. Select your contact, then select how you would like to communicate.

    1. Click lync-mac-icon-chat to chat
    2. Click lync-mac-icon-call to start an audio call
    3. Click lync-mac-icon-video to start a video call (with audio)
    4. Click lync-mac-icon-email to send an email
    5. Click lync-mac-icon-meeting to schedule a meeting


Sharing Screens

  1. Press Control and click the contact you want to share with and then select Share Desktop.

    NOTE: Click OK on the sharing dialog box

Add Contacts

  1. Enter the name or email address of the person you want to add in the search field.

  2. On the Microsoft Lync dialog box:
    1. Click “+” sign
    2. Select the group to which you want to add the contact
