Manually Set Up Your Windows 7 Device for Eduroam

Associated Service Wireless Network


This document details how to manually connect to Eduroam on a computer with Windows 7.


Steps to Connect to Eduroam with Windows 7

  1. Click on Windows Start button on the bottom left corner of your screen.
  2. Select Control Panel.
  3. Select Small icons in the “View by:” droplist in the Adjust your computer’s settings dialog box.

  4. Click Network and Sharing Center

  5. Click Manage wireless networks in the left hand window panel.

  6. Click the Add button in the Manage wireless networks dialog box.

  7. Select Manually create a network profile.

  8. Enter the following information in the Manually connect to a wireless network dialog box:
    1. Enter Eduroam in the “Network Name” field.
    2. Select WPA2 – Enterprise on the “Security type” drop down list.
    3. Select AES on the “Encryption type” drop down list.
    4. Check Start this connection automatically.
    5. Check Connect even if the network is not broadcasting.
    6. Click Next
  9. Select Change connection settings.
  10. In the Eduroam Wireless Network properties dialog box:
    1. Click the Security tab.
    2. Select Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP) in the “Choose a network authentication method” droplist.
    3. Click Settings
  11. In the Protected EAP Properties dialog box:
    1. Check the Validate server certificate box.
    2. Select VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certificate Authority – G5
    3. Click Configure
  12. Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any), and click OK.

  13. Click OK in the Protected EAP Properties dialog box.
  14. Click OK in the Eduroam Wireless Network properties dialog box.
    NOTE: A notification window will pop up in the system tray indicating that additional information is needed. Click on the notification bubble.
  15. In the Windows Security dialog box:
    1. Enter your CampusID and CampusID password
    2. Click OK
    3. Eduroam9
  16. Once authentication is successful another notification should appear in the system tray (lower right corner of your desktop) indicating that the system has been connected to the Eduroam wireless network.
    NOTE: It may take a few moments for the authentication process to complete.
