Installing the VPN with AnyConnect on Windows 7

Overview

This document describes the steps to access Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client with Windows 7.

Requirements

  • Windows 7
  • Uninstall any previous version of GSU’s Cisco VPN client
  • Your CampusID and CampusID password
    If you have forgotten your CampusID password, visit http://campusid.gsu.edu

Steps to Uninstall a Previous Version of GSU’s Cisco VPN Client

  1. Click the Windows “Start” button.
  2. Click “Control Panel.”
  3. Click “Uninstall a program” in the Control Panel dialog box.
    NOTE: If you view your Control Panel as icons, click Program and Features.
  4. In the Uninstall or change a program dialog box:
    1. Select “Cisco Systems VPN Client 5.5.07.029″
      NOTE: The version number at the end of the name will vary.
    2. Click “Uninstall.”

  5. Click “Yes” in the Programs and Features dialog box.

Steps to Install Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client with Windows 7

  1. Open Internet Explorer and go to http://secureaccess.gsu.edu.
  2. Click the “Tools” tab, then select “Internet Options.”

  3. In the Internet Options dialog box:
    1. Click the “Security” tab
    2. Click on “Trusted sites” under “Select a zone to view or change security settings.”
    3. Click the “Sites” button.

  4. In the Trusted sites dialog box:
    1. Type in “https://secureaccess.gsu.edu” in the “Add this website to the zone” field.
    2. Click the “Add” button.
    3. Click the “Close” button.

  5. Click the “OK” button in Internet Options dialog box.
  6. Refresh your browser window.
  7. Enter your CampusID and CampusID Password in the “Login” box.
    NOTE: If you have forgotten your CampusID password, use the http://campusid.gsu.edu
  8. Select either “On Campus”, “Off Campus”, or “Wireless” for “Group.”
    • Select Wireless if you are within campus and are connected to Georgia State University’s wireless network.
    • Select On Campus if you are within campus, but not connected to GSU’s wireless network.
    • Select Off-Campus if you are not on the GSU campus network.
  9. Click “Login”

  11. Click on the ActiveX Warning Ribbon, then select “Install This Add-on for All Users on This Computer.”

  12. Click “Yes” in the User Account Control dialog box.

    NOTE: Once the connection is complete, the following image will appear on the secureaccess.gsu.edu website. You are now connected over VPN.

    NOTE: If you get the following screen, instead of the “Connection Established” screen, you will need to manually install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client

Steps to Manually Install the VPN Client

  1. Click on the link labeled Windows 7/Vista/64/XP

  2. Click Run in the File Download-Security Warning dialog box.

  4. Click Next in the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client Setup dialog box

  5. Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and click Next

  6. Click Install

  7. Click Finish when installation is complete

  8. Click on Windows Start button, and then click All Programs
  9. In the list of programs:
    1. Click on Cisco folder
    2. Select Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client folder
    3. Select Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

  10. Type secureaccess.gsu.edu in the “Connect to:” field on the Connections tab, then Click Select

Connecting and Disconnecting

The AnyConnect client will also load in your “Task Bar,” and can be right-clicked from there to either disconnect or connect. To open the program in the future, click the “Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client” icon on your Start menu, under “All Programs.”


Uninstalling

If you need to uninstall the program, go to your Control Panel, then click on “Add or Remove a Program.”
