Managing Your Discussions


Managing Your Settings

  1. Within your Course Homepage:
    1. Click Communications
    2. Click Discussions

  2. From the Discussions page, click Settings

  4. In Settings, you can change the following:
    1. Display Settings include:
      • Always show the Discussions List pane – Shows a sidebar on the left of the screen with access to all forums and topics
      • Display deleted posts– Shows posts that were deleted
    2. Default View includes:
      • Grid View – the former default view
      • Reading View – the new style
    3. Reply Settings – Includes the original post in reply. For longer posts, this can make copying and pasting text from the original post easier, but if text is just left there without direct comment, it can waste space
    4. Subscription Settings– Automatic subscription to a new thread
    5. Default Rating Scheme – Allows other students to rate posts on a five-point scale
    6. Topic Descriptions – For Grid View, this allows descriptions to be displayed in the Message List along with topic titles
    7. Default Threading Style includes:
      • Threaded – responses will show just below items they respond to
      • Unthreaded – all posts display in chronological order
    8. Display Settings includes:
      • Show the Preview Pane – Provides a lower preview pane in Grid View
      • Show the Search Bar – Displays a search bar in Grid View
    9. Post Fields to Display includes:
      • Post ID – Displays the unique number value for each post
      • Org. Defined ID – Displays the unique number value assigned for each author
    10. Character Limits – Allows you to limit the amount of text that students can post
    11. When finished, click Save

Managing Your Statistics

  1. Within your Course Homepage:
    1. Click Communications
    2. Click Discussions

  2. Click Statistics

  4. To view more detailed information for each student, click their name. This will cause a Pop-up window to appear

  6. After reviewing, click Close

  8. To view more detailed information for each forum and topic, click Forums and Topics

  10. To view more detailed information for each topic, click its name. This will cause a Pop-up window to appear

Restoring a Discussion

  1. Within your Course Homepage:
    1. Click Communications
    2. Click Discussions

  2. Under More Actions, click Restore

  4. Beside the Discussion you would like to restore, click Restore
